Cell phone reception is not very good in Hell, which makes a lot of weird glyphs show up in place of letters in text messages*. Also, the Devil just really likes emojis, and uses them kind of like Cher does. His message without all the garbage reads: “NO IDEA WHO IT WAS SRY. [ILLEGIBLE] YOU R SAFE. BIG ??? AHEAD. LOVE DAD. ?”

*this was inspired by that one episode of Astonishing Legends about the Sallie House, in which the Pickmans’ cell phones would disappear (sometimes for weeks.) The missing phones would end up sending other family members’ phones all black photos, as well as texts with weird glyphs in them that did not exist in phone technology at the time. (I want to say this in in episode 4 of the series on the Sallie House but don’t quote me on that.)
